Vibrant Acrylic Paintings by @_elcreative

I’m Ellie, a 27 year old side-venture artist, based in the Forest of Dean. My artwork can be found on Instagram at @_elcreative

Creativity runs in my family and my artistic interests remained as just a hobby for many years until 2020 happened and it became a side-venture. The main style of my artwork is acrylic abstract but I dabble with watercolour illustrations too. I love working with acrylics and the freedom they bring to creativity. I use a gorgeous range of tones and colours to create depth, movement and texture, as well as adding in metallic streaks which glint through, especially when the sunlight hits them. My interior style is minimalistic with white walls, so I have always seen artwork as a way of bringing colour, vibrancy, interest and life into a space. When painting, I never confine myself to a rigid concept, but rather, pick a colour scheme and just go where the paintbrush takes me, whilst listening to various playlists (mostly 60’s/70’s/80’s classics) which usually inspires me! Every abstract is unique and they’re almost like a new piece of art each time you look at them – a new colour or brush stroke appears. I love feeling inspired and producing various pieces, but my main focus and enjoyment comes from creating custom requests with personalised colour schemes – nothing beats seeing your art filling in that blank space in someone’s home.

Minimalist Textured Art by @nakedinthecity_

Hello, I started @nakedinthecity_ in January 2020, so I'm quite the newbie! I would describe my art as minimalist, unique, and thought-provoking.

I have always been creative and I was lucky enough to be born into a very 'arty' family, however, I had lost touch with my creative side. During the lockdown, I really had to change my mindset and use the extra time I had to make create something positive. I started to experiment with textured canvases as I have always enjoyed making mixed media art. I found it so therapeutic, I completely shut off from all my worries and the rest of the world, so I decided to set up @nakedinthecity_. I've been astonished by the response and I have had so many lovely people messaging me about my work, it's been incredible. I make a series of designs, as well as make personal commissions of landscapes, bodies, memorable places, anything that makes someone feel good, I am willing to give it a go!

My inspiration comes from London (where I live) mostly, I love the skylines and the architecture, but also my own emotions and thoughts. I think this is best portrayed in my piece "calm chaos"!!

Thank you for reading my entry.

Modern Abstract Art by @wallartbylucy

Hello, my name is Lucy, the creator of Wall Art by Lucy which I launched May 2020. I’m 24 years old and live in the small town Halifax, West Yorkshire. I’ve always loved painting and thrive in creative situations, but it wasn’t until the first lockdown that I could really refine my skills due to being furloughed. At first it was for fun; my happy place and a way I could express myself. That was until I posted a few of my paintings on Instagram, and here we are!

Over the last year I’ve been building my portfolio, taking inspiration from anything and everything - landscape, nature, interiors, texture – my brain is constantly ticking, thinking of what I can create next! Although I don’t stick to one particular ‘style’, I’d definitely describe myself as a modern abstract artist. I mostly paint with acrylics but also work with gesso for texture and use charcoal to add depth. Aesthetically, minimal ‘less is more’ pieces are my favourite but working on bright and bold commissions is wonderful as it throws me out of my comfort zone!

Over the past couple of months I’ve been a busy bee creating my website which I hope to launch in February. Currently, you can purchase my paintings on Instagram @wallartbylucy or for commissioned pieces you can email me at lucywallart@gmail.com. Thank you for taking the time to read my little segment! Love, Lucy X

Eclectically Minimalist from @originalsstudio

Hello, my name is Alice, I am 26 and based in London, but during the lockdown, Surrey. I would describe my art as stylish, unique, modern.

I set up Originals Studio to showcase my artworks and create unique and stylish treasures that help make your house a home. I used to be a keen fine artist but I wanted to create more commercial works that also translated well to homeware and a cohesive interior style. I don't sell anything that I wouldn't have in my own home!

I am inspired by vintage prints, photography and homeware which I love to style and incorporate with minimalist lines and tones for a fresh yet unique look. Originals combine my own artworks as well as a curated selection of handmade, vintage and independent homeware products.

- Any interesting facts about your art?

Each of my artworks sometimes has several iterations- I often do a few versions and then photograph them all and decide which one should be the final version. I don't get it right first time usually! I also find line painting way more difficult than super detail fine art drawings- I love a challenge.

I would say eclectically minimalist with a large dose of quirky!

Encapsulating Art by @studio18interiors

Freya | London @studio18interiors, www.studio18interiors.com

Art for me has always been about connection. The art I have in my home means something, whether it was from a certain holiday, it makes me giggle or someone special gave it to me. This theme is something I carry through into my work as an artist.
Having found my artistic style in an art class about four years ago, I began to create paintings for friends and family as presents. I started with countries and journeys with the idea that they would have something other than photos on their phones to remember a special time or event. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute and never considered it would develop into anything else. Like many other small businesses in 2020, the time that lockdown inevitably opened up, meant I had more headspace to focus on the two things I love, Art and Interiors - cue the start of Studio 18.
Being an Interior Designer, my understanding of shape, form and colours feeds into my work and helps make my bespoke pieces completely tailored to the person and space they are intended for. From the first time using texture, and to this day, I let the texture lead me on how a painting develops. Painting with texture throws its fair share of curveballs, I think a painting is going to turn out one way and more often than not it turns out the opposite! I see art as an integral part to Interior Design and by spending more and more time at home, it’s never been more important to surround ourselves with things that make us happy. I hope to form connections through my art by capturing memories, places, heritage, weddings, engagements, holidays, (the list goes on) on canvas, to create art that brings a smile and hopefully digs up some funny stories from a special time.

Bold Botanicals by @ellemahoneydesigns

Starting Elle Mahoney Designs came around pretty organically, I have always loved painting and drawing and during the first lockdown I found myself with more time to explore and develop my style. After sharing a few designs on my Instagram and receiving really heartwarming responses I decided to take the plunge and open an Etsy store. I run the business alongside my career as a Product Designer (designing user experiences and interfaces for apps and websites) in tech.

My designs focus primarily on botanical and natural forms, they tend to start off fairly observational and become more whimsical and stylised as the illustration progresses. I am always drawn to limited palettes of bold colour and enjoy creating a mix of repeat prints and botanical portraiture. A lot of my inspiration comes from the creative works of Victorian botanists, most notably Marianne North and of course the natural world. Interior design magazines and books on botanical illustrations also help me formulate the mood of my artwork before putting pen to paper - or Apple pencil to iPad!

By drawing its most beautiful forms I hope to bring the revitalising energy of nature into people's homes during these challenging times when we all are stuck inside. With Spring around the corner I am celebrating with a new collection of greetings cards, filled with more colour, prints and flowers. These alongside a fresh new selection of art prints are available on my Etsy store, the perfect place to find gifts for flower loving friends or a little treat for yourself!

Hand-drawn Illustrations by @homedrawn21

Hello my name is Aurélie Baudry, I'm a French illustrator based in Hackney, London. I draw light-hearted and whimsical illustrations in a cartoon-like style. I work with a variety of clients ranging from stationery brands, corporate clients and private individuals in the UK and USA. I also create a bespoke house and family portraits. People can commission a personalised illustration as a birthday, anniversary, wedding or housewarming gift which means it's always very thoughtful and unique to them. All my illustrations are completely hand-drawn using ink, watercolour and gouache. I love drawing in this traditional way because I think that it gives the illustrations an extra touch of life as well as a charm and warmth one can't always find in digital works. Plus, you'll know it is your illustration forever and does not exist anywhere else to be copied.

I'm constantly inspired by the work of iconic illustrators such as Saul Steinberg, Sempé, Miroslav Šašek, Ronald Searle or Quentin Blake. I really enjoy the focus on lines and the apparent simplicity of illustration drawings. I love creating joyous illustrations filled with little details you only notice if you pay attention to the scene.

I was born and grew up in the pretty town of Cognac in France. For as far as I can remember, I've always loved drawing. I'm self-taught when it comes to drawing and illustration but I did learn water colour technique with an artist when I was young. We'd often set out in the countryside and vineyards to find beautiful farms to paint and I believe this is where my love of painting houses and architecture started. I absolutely loved art but did not think at that time that it would ever be a possible career option. I set up Home-Drawn, my illustration business, just over a couple of years ago.  Living in Hackney, a very creative neighbourhood, fired up my imagination. It gave me the confidence and inspiration I needed to launch my own business. I'd been longing for a more independent, creative and freeing life after a few years working for big organisations. I genuinely could not be happier I took the plunge and have been very fortunate to work on a so many beautiful and fun projects.

Unique Fluid Art by @_creativewellness

Libbie- 25 - Wales.

Ever since I was young I’ve had an interest in various forms of art and I really enjoy sharing this passion with others, especially my two young daughters.

I quite often used to produce various pieces of art for around my own home and for a number of close friends and family in order to create a modern but unique appearance to their decor. So starting a business doing something I was already enjoying as a hobby felt like a perfect thing to do, and a good way for my art to reach a wider audience and brighten more homes.

A funny story, I had recently been working on a commissioned piece and just as I had finished my sister had arrived with some drinks and covered the entire piece in Coke, disaster!

My most popular pieces of art tend to be pour painting/fluid art, with this type of technique there's no right or wrong you have to just go with the flow.... no pun intended, although the more you move the paint the more it becomes muddy so less movement better quality!

Playful designs by @jessica_smith_illustrations

Hey, I’m Jess, a freelance illustrator and designer from Bath, UK. My work is fun, playful and colourful. I create my illustrations using gouache paint and by working digitally on procreate and photoshop. My main aim when making work is to make people smile and feel good, so I try and use fun colours, shapes and subject matter in all of my work.

I started my art business after graduating from university and realising that this really could be my job! I don’t think I really realised that I could do this as a job until I graduated, so when I got my first freelance job it was a dream come true! The idea of being able to draw for a living and work for myself was always so appealing (and still is). I love being my own boss and having the freedom of planning my own working week.

I get my inspiration from everything around me, nature, people, places etc. I love painting plants and animals. I love using bright colours and find that I get so much inspiration from planning new colour palettes or trying out new combinations!

I think people think that if you’re an illustrator you just easily fall into knowing what your style is, but honestly, it took me my entire degree and some to figure out what on earth I wanted to do and how I wanted to do it! When I graduated I still had no idea what my style was, and still wasn’t sure how I planned to make work on my own. It was a long journey to get here, but definitely worth it!

I’d describe my ‘style’ as a vibrant and playful illustration. I never really know what to say when I’m asked this question but I think that best describes the things I create!
